ST Telemedia, Philippine universities team up to develop data center talent pool

ST Telemedia Global Data Centres Philippines teamed up with the country’s top universities to build data center talent pool.

The company—a joint venture of Globe, Ayala Corp. and Singapore-based ST Telemedia Global Data Centres—said the collaboration with De La Salle University, University of Santo Tomas and National University marks a significant step towards nurturing the next generation of data center industry talent to cement the Philippines’ position in the global digital landscape.

The partnership aims to spark interest and appreciation for the data center industry among students, providing them with valuable real-world experience and a clear career pathway within this rapidly-growing field.

“The key to securing the digital future of the Philippines lies in the hands of our youth. This partnership merges the academic expertise of our esteemed university partners with industry insights from STT GDC Philippines, offering an enriched learning journey for students and a fortified future for our nation’s digital revolution,”  said Carlo Malana, president and chief executive of STT GDC Philippines.

The collaboration sets out to achieve three strategic objectives: enhancing awareness of the data center industry, integrating industry-relevant content into engineering curricula, and providing practical, hands-on internship programs. Joint projects focused on energy efficiency, cooling technologies, and security systems will drive research and innovation to tackle industry challenges head-on.

STT GDC Philippines plans to scale up the program, inviting more universities and training institutions to participate, to create a robust talent pipeline for the country’s data center industry.

The initiative, bridging the gap between academia and industry, aims to keep the Philippines at the forefront of digital growth and transformation.

STT GDC Philippines recently broke ground on the nation’s largest and most interconnected carrier-neutral data center, STT Fairview.

Built to meet international standards, the facility places sustainability at the forefront, incorporating significant carbon reductions, artificial intelligence, liquid cooling-readiness and a commitment towards carbon-neutral operations by 2030.

Projected to grow at a compounded annual rate of 20 percent through 2030, the Philippine digital industry stands to benefit significantly from the initiative.
