PLDT and Smart are helping Cabanatauan City educators in the province of Nueva Ecija explore new teaching methods. As educational institutions close out the first school year of hybrid learning, PLDT and Smart continue to support efforts by the Department of Education to ensure no learner is left behind through the Central Visayan Institute Foundation Dynamic Learning Program (CVIF DLP).

“The CVIF DLP trains students to be independent learners. The crisis-resilient teaching pedagogy builds on the DepEd’s curriculum. It can be utilized in both on-site classes and distance learning,” said Stephanie V. Orlino, AVP and Head of Stakeholder Management at PLDT and Smart.

More than 100 teachers from ten elementary and senior high schools across the division were onboarded. Learning from their own experiences, program ambassadors Desi Dario Magnaye, Davao Christian High School Principal, and Edward Ryan Gulam, DepEd Sarangani Division Learning Resource Management System Coordinator shared tips on how to effectively run the CVIF DLP alongside current DepEd teaching modalities.

“The CVIF DLP helps teachers use their time efficiently as it promotes independent student activity over lengthy discussions,” said Magnaye.

Developed by Ramon Magsaysay awardees Dr. Christopher Bernido and the late Dr. Maria Victoria Bernido, the CVIF DLP trains students to study on their own. This is made possible by the CVIF DLP Learning Activity Sheets (CVIF DLP LAS) that simplify complex concepts into single-page materials that help improve the academic performance of students even with little to no teacher or parent intervention.

“A well-prepared CVIF DLP learning activity sheet explains the basic idea of the lesson. Teachers should focus on one major concept at a time. Instructions should be specific and easy to follow,” added Gulam.

“We are grateful to have been given the opportunity to join the growing CVIF DLP community of implementers. We strongly believe that this will help lighten the load on our teachers,” said Dr. Priscilla D. Sanchez, Chief of Curriculum Implementation Division, DepEd Schools Division Office Cabanatuan City

Smart and PLDT-Smart Foundation have supported the CVIF-DLP for over a decade. The program highlights the use of technology to promote inclusive quality education that will help build a “MATATAG” nation. PLDT and Smart create and support various educational initiatives in line with their commitment to helping the nation achieve the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals #4: Quality Education.
