The city of Muntinlupa has established a sports facilities management department in its bid to be a leading destination for local and international events in Southeast Asia.

Mayor Ruffy Biazon recently signed Executive Order No. 20 establishing the Sports and Recreations Management Division (SRMD) to manage the city’s sports and recreational facilities as well as promote them for local and international competitions.

“(Now with the SRMD) we expect our sports facilities to be well-taken care of and maximized to their fullest potential as we now have a dedicated office to oversee their daily operations,” Biazon said.

Appointed as head of the SRMD is Joshua Robert Cosare, a member of the Sports Management Council of the Philippines. Cosare has a degree in sports and recreational management and more than 10 years of experience in the same field.

The SRMD’s main task is the operation and maintenance of the city’s sports facilities, such as the Muntinlupa Sports Center, Aquatic Center, Track and Field Oval. This also includes covered courts, parks, playgrounds, and other similar facilities in various locations around the city.

Moreover, the SRMD is also in charge of promoting and marketing these facilities as a venue for local competitions as well as international events and tournaments.

Biazon also added that this push to develop sports in the city is not only for economic reasons but for the well-being of citizens. “We are giving priority to sports and recreations management as part of our efforts to support the health and wellness of Muntinlupeños,” he said.
