ART — Art and history enthusiasts view the exhibit sketches on the district of San Nicolas of Manila at the Instituto Cervantes Plaza San Luis Compound Intramuros, Manila on Friday, May 19, 2023. The district of San Nicolas, an area of Manila’s Historic Chinatown, was once the site of teeming interaction between the Spanish and Chinese in the Philippines which has a profound impact on the development and shaping of Philippine identity. The area is directly linked to the economic and industrial history of the country and has a relevant role in the Philippine Revolution. Architecturally, its 19th-century buildings and streets are evidence of this interaction and are the last vestiges of a bygone era. Unfortunately, the district continues to lose its historic interest and its last remaining sites are being lost to neglect. The exhibit, which consists of some 50 artworks, will be available for viewing everyday, including Sundays, from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM until July 31st. DANNY PATA
