Solon to NGCP: Ensure enough power for health facilities in summer months

A party-list lawmaker on Saturday urged the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) to ensure adequate power supply for health facilities amid possible intermittent power interruptions during the summer.

“We urge the NGCP to make sure that we have adequate power supply throughout the summer season when demand is at its highest,” Anakalusugan Rep. Ray Reyes, vice chair of the House Committee on Health, said.

“Hospital patients’ lives are on the line and we need to ensure that the quality of operations in our medical facilities will not be affected,” Reyes said.

Reyes also underscored the NGCP’s role in the country’s transition to green energy and noted that electricity rates are also usually highest during summer due to the high demand in electricity.

Citing data from the Department of Energy (DOE), Reyes said energy demand was expected to reach a high of 13,125 megawatts (MWs)..

He called on the NGCP to fast track its study backlogs on green energy to tap a more stable, cheaper energy supply for consumers.

“NGCP has the power to make it easier for renewable energy technologies to make it into the grid,” Reyes said.

“We need to finish more projects that will ensure sufficient and cheaper energy supply,” he added.
