Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority chairman and administrator Rolen Paulino has tendered his courtesy resignation to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

In his letter, Paulino said his resignation will take effect on April 15, 2023.

In a Facebook post, SBMA Deputy Administrator for Corporate Communications Armie Llamas described Paulino as “a leader, a coach, mentor, a friend.”

“Time flew so fast because each day was fueled with the passion to serve our stakeholders with your ‘Fast, Friendly and Flexible’ customer-centered motto,” Llamas said.

A source said Paulino cited health concerns in his resignation letter.

On Tuesday, in his first State of the Freeport Address, Paulino declared record-breaking accomplishments for Subic in 2022.

“2022 was a banner year for the SBMA despite the fact that the country was just recovering from the hiatus brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. It was an opportune time to work together, so we could bounce back from the debilitating effects of the pandemic, achieve our ultimate goal—to attract investments and, more importantly, create employment,” he said.

Revenue collections by various SBMA departments “have increased compared to 2021 figures and even surpassed pre-pandemic performance,” Paulino said.

He said SBMA was able to turn over to the National Treasury a total of P1.33 billion, an amount 20 percent higher than the 2021 dividends of P1.11 billion.
