Cavitex Infrastructure Corp., a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. and the concession holder for the Manila-Cavite Expressway and its C5 Link segment, signed a deal with the China Road and Bridge Corp. to start the latest segment of the 7.7-kilometer road.

CAVITEX C5 Link Segment 2 is a 1.9-kilometer, 2×3 lane expressway that will connect CAVITEX R-1 (Coastal Rd.) from Paranaque Toll Plaza to Sucat via R-1 Interchange. It is expected to reduce travel time to Sucat Road from CAVITEX R-1 and vice versa by 10 minutes.

CIC president and general manager Raul Ignacio and CRBC Philippine branch general manager Ren Xiaopeng led the signing ceremony.

“The CAVITEX C5 Link is a vital segment of the Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway Project. So far, we managed to open 3.8-kilometers [Segment 3A1 and 3A2] to the motoring public, serving more than 16,000 vehicles daily,” said Ignacio.

“Still, we have a long way to go. This is something we cannot do alone, hence our search for a contractor that would be up for the task-delivering world-class quality infrastructure for our motorists within our timeline. We are glad that our new partner China Road and Bridge Corp. took on the challenge,” he said.

CIC and CRBC plan to start phase 2 of the construction for the CAVITEX C5 Link Segment 2 within the first quarter and aim to open it to the public before the end of the year.

Meanwhile, the construction of Segment 3-B from Sucat to E. Rodriguez (RSG Subdivision) is set to begin in the third quarter of the year, based on the latest project timeline of CIC.
