The Swim League Philippines recently announced its program of tournaments for the first half of the year in both short and long-course events nationwide, including the pre-qualifying selection for members of the Philippine Team that will be sent to two international competitions.

SLP president Fred Ancheta said young swimmers from Mindanao will have the opportunity to show their talents with the holding of the Mindanao Swim Series 1-Davao Del Sur Cup on January 14 and 15 at the Davao del Sur Sports Complex, Brgy. Matti, Digos City.

Ancheta said the two-day tournament is a pre-qualifying selection for the coming Middle East Open in Dubai in July, as well as preparation for SLP’s new role to form a team that will be sent to Bangkok and the Universiade Games.

“We value our Mindanao swimmers. This will prove that they’re never forgotten and neglected by the SLP,” said Ancheta.

“Ginawa natin na tayo na ang lumapit sa ating mga kapatid sa Mindanao para hindi na rin sila gumasta ng malaki kung magpupunta pa sila sa Manila para makasali sa pre-qualifying event para sa ating international team. Ganito rin ang gagawin namin sa mga kasama natin na nasa Visayas,” he added.

The SLP chief said the tournament is open to all swimmers and swimming clubs and organization regardless of their affiliation, reiterating that the SLP vision is grassroots development.

Interested swimmers and clubs may send entries to email rollyflame@yahoo.com or call Rolly Dela Cruz (0905-8479233 and 0919-5772982) and SLP (0917-714-0077).

Aside from Davao Del Sur Cup, SLP will host the Manila Swim Series 1 on Jan. 20 and 21 at the Philippine Columbian Association in Paco, Manila; the Road to Universiade meet in Antipolo City and the Bataan Swim Cup in Abucay, Bataan on Jan. 28.
