EdgePoint Infrastructure, through subsidiary Edgepoint Towers Inc., plans to acquire more tower assets from two incumbent players to become the largest tower operator in the Philippines, a top executive said Friday.
EdgePoint chief executive Suresh Sidhu said in a briefing the company was open to acquiring more tower assets from PLDT Inc. and Globe Telecom. He said the company also planned to build its own towers to support the requirements of the local telecom companies.
EdgePoint Philippines entered the Philippine market in April this year through the acquisition of 5,907 telecom towers and related passive telecom infrastructure for P77 billion from Smart Communications Inc.
Following the sale, Smart is leasing the towers from EdgePoint Philippines to serve its mobile communications and high-speed internet connectivity needs in the region.
