Manila Water pilots microtunneling in PH

Manila Water Co. Inc. said Monday it piloted the first microtunneling technology in Mandaluyong City to construct the Mandaluyong West Sewer Network Package 1.

The project is part of the P785-million Mandaluyong West, San Juan South and Quezon City South Sewerage System that includes the Aglipay Sewage Treatment Plant complemented by a combined sewer network, which will cater to households in Mandaluyong, San Juan and a segment of Quezon City.

The Aglipay STP, with a daily capacity of 60 million liters per day, is expected to be completed by January 2024.

Representatives from the Mandaluyong local government unit, Manila Water’s project team and contractor EI Construction Development Corp. witnessed the arrival of the tunnel boring machine which will lay the 1,500-millimeter glass-reinforced plastic pipe for the Mandaluyong West Sewer Network Package 1.

This will serve as the influent line that will collect the wastewater from Mandaluyong City households going to the Aglipay STP. Alena Mae S. Flores
