Mercury Drug Corporation (MDC) becomes the first Platinum Donor to the Dr. Placido L. Mapa, Jr. (PLM) Scholarship Endowment of the University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P), extending further UA&P’s support for highly deserving scholarship applicants.

“Mercury Drug’s founder, Dr. Mariano Que, and his wife, Mrs. Estelita de Jesus-Que, were staunch advocates and firm believers of education,” said MDC President Dr. Vivian Que-Azcona.

Mercury Drug Corporation (MDC) President Vivian Que-Azcona, together with her son Steven Q. Azcona, now Assistant to the President and a graduate of the University of Asia and the Pacific, has recently donated a substantial amount to UA&P’s Dr. Placido L. Mapa, Jr. Scholarship Grants.

“By supporting the PLM Scholarship Endowment, we are keeping alive their dream of helping children, especially those who excel academically, to achieve tertiary education and hopefully become future leaders of our country. We hope this partnership will inspire the deserving students of UA&P to aim for excellence in their chosen fields.”

The scholarship grant is available to all incoming college and junior college students with a high school average of at least 90% and who possess exemplary leadership qualities and the potential to be catalysts for change in their community.

Student grantees will be provided with 100% coverage of tuition and miscellaneous fees, a 10-month stipend of P8,000/month, an internet allowance, a laptop, and an exclusive professional development coach from UA&P’s Board of Trustees.

“Attracting and supporting outstanding students in UA&P not only contribute to the university’s overall academic, research, and people development climate but also provide opportunities for these students to acquire the unique brand of UA&P education that will allow them as students and future professionals to be positive agents of change in society,” UA&P President Dr. Winston Conrad B. Padojinog remarked.

“We truly appreciate that this mission is shared by Dr. Vivian Que-Azcona as evidenced by her support for the Placido Mapa Scholarship Fund.”

UA&P launched the PLM Scholarship Endowment in 2022 in honor of Dr. Placido L. Mapa, Jr., the one and only Chairman of the Center for Research and Communication and its successor institution, UA&P, until his demise on May 5, 2019, at the age of 86.

Scholarship applications for SY 2023-2024 are open until November 15, 2022. For more info, visit https://uap.asia/.
