Vice-President-elect Sara Duterte-Carpio’s inauguration on June 19 in Davao City will be open to the public, with at least 40 artists providing entertainment capped by a music concert.

The inaugural rites, to be held at the San Pedro Square, will start at 4:30 p.m., although the gates will open for the public at least two hours earlier for a thanksgiving Mass and pre-program entertainment.

Supreme Court Justice Ramon Paul Hernando will administer the Vice President-elect’s oath of office.

Duterte-Carpio’s Filipiniana gown will be custom–made by Davao designer Silverio Anglacer.

Free rides will be provided for those who want to attend the event.

Organizers urged the people to observe COVID-19 protocols while at the venue.

Attendees will undergo security screening at all entry points and wearing of backpacks and jackets will not be allowed.

Drones shall be taken down, except for those issued with security clearance.

According to the organizers, a photo opportunity for the public with Duterte-Carpio will be available at Quezon Park in front of the city hall beginning at 6 p.m.

Meanwhile, Davao City policemen have heightened their security measures ahead of Duterte-Carpio’s inauguration as the country’s 15th vice president.

“Since May 27, we have already activated the Davao Defense System. It’s a tactical and operational strategy wherein Davao City has conducted heightened checkpoint in all tri-borders going to Davao City,” said Davao City Police Office spokesperson Police Major Maria Teresita Gaspan at the Laging Handa briefing on Saturday.

“All passengers and vehicles are subjected for inspection. We even recommended that those going out of Davao City will only be passing through the Davao City Overland [Transport] Terminal so that no similar accident will happen like what happened in Central Mindanao,” Gaspan added.

She said the Davao City Police will be deploying around 2,000 personnel to provide full security coverage from June 18 to 19.

Gaspan said the Philippine National Police has so far not monitored any serious threats to the upcoming event.

“However we will not be complacent about it considering the bombings that happened in Central Mindanao. That’s why we always beef up our security measures,” she said.
