Pope Francis has appointed Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle as a member of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments.

The church-run Radio Veritas reported on Thursday that the Vatican announced the appointment on June 1, along with the designation of other bishops to the Vatican office.

Under the office, priests, deacons, and other ordained ministers who wish to use the Old Rite are required to submit their request to the Cardinal and agree to follow the new norms of the church.

The Congregation for Divine Worship is led by Cardinal-elect Archbishop Arthur Roche who is part of the consistory that is set to be held on August 27. He replaces Cardinal Robert Sarah who retired in May 2021.

Aside from Tagle’s membership in the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, as Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, he also manages the Dicastery for Evangelizations.

Before he was appointed to the Vatican office, Tagle headed the Caritas Internationalis.
