Despite a canceled rally of the UniTeam, supporters have still felt the warmth of Davao City Mayor and vice presidential bet Sara Duterte’s presence.
“Bad weather has prompted the UniTeam to cancel at the last minute its scheduled grand rally in Parañaque City on Thursday evening, but this did not stop Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats vice presidential candidate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte and the accompanying senatorial candidates to meet with the gathered large throng of
people,” the team’s statement read.
Shortly after the cancellation of the rally was made due to the heavy downpour, Duterte moved toward the crowd to cheer them and convey her great appreciation for showing up in what could have been another big rally of the UniTeam.
UniTeam senatorial candidates Gilbert Teodoro, Gringo Honasan, and Harry Roque went down from the stage to thank their rain-soaked supporters before the rally was canceled.
Ex-Metropolitan Manila Development Authority chair Benhur Abalos, campaign manager of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas presidential standard-bearer Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., said they expected up to 50,000 Parañaque residents to show up at the UniTeam’s grand rally at the Aseana City.
Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez, House majority leader and Lakas-CMD president, said the mammoth crowd that assembled at the Aseana City was a validation of the Filipinos’ preference of the incoming leadership of the BBM-Sara tandem.
“The big number of people who showed up to show their support amid the bad weather was an affirmation of the UniTeam tandem as well as its leadership and great ability to steer the country for the next six years,” he said.
Marcos, Jr. meanwhile called on Lagunenses to work with their administration after they win in May to attain economic recovery and progress for the country.
Speaking before thousands of people during a rally at the capitol compound in Sta. Cruz, Laguna, Marcos said the country has been able to overcome challenges that it faced because Filipinos united and worked together.
“All crises, all disasters, we have survived because we are united. We have learned that no one else will help the Filipinos but our fellow Filipinos only,” Marcos said.
Duterte, for her part, also called on the people to work with them for their plans and programs to succeed.
Meanwhile, to show his support to Marcos and Duterte, a student from the BN Calara School walked from his house located in the hilly Bgy. San Antonio, Kalayaan, Laguna to present sketches of the two that he painstakingly made.
“I believe that their government is good because Marcos is from the North while Sara is from Mindanao. There will be unity,” Stephen Angel Lucero said.
