Subway project hits 30% progress

The Department of Transportation said Wednesday the overall completion of the P488.48-billion Metro Manila Subway Project reached 30.55 percent as of February this year.

Transporation Undersecretary for railways Timothy John Batan said the country’s first subway “is finally becoming a reality” after almost five decades and six administrations.

“Delivering the Philippines’ first subway is not a one-agency affair. The fast-and-sure implementation of the MMSP requires an all-of-government approach, and one of DOTr’s most wide-ranging partnerships for the Metro Manila Subway Project is the partnership with the Department of National Defense and the Armed Forces of the Philippines,” Batan said.

The DND and DOTr signed a right-of-way usage agreement in December 2020.

“In the short to long term, DOTr will pay DND-AFP a recurring annual usufruct fee of 10 percent of latest zonal value and 5 percent of gross non-farebox revenues of the concerned subway stations upon start of operations,” Batan said.
