The presidential bid of Vice President Leni Robredo has adopted the rose as its symbol in the three-month campaign that officially begins today (February 8).

“The rose is the symbol of our campaign because in our country, the rose also stands for love, hope, and a better life,” said Barry Gutierrez, Robredo’s spokesperson.

“This mirrors aptly what is at the center of our fight – the heart of every Filipino that gives life to our People’s Campaign. ‘Rosas ang kulay ng bukas’ [Rose is the color of the future] is our dream that is carried by our ‘Gobyernong Tapat, Angat Buhay Lahat’ [Honest Government, A Better Life for All] commitment,” Gutierrez added.

Flowers have been part of key political moments all over the world, with the rose standing for movements for democracy and freedom.

The rose symbol complements Robredo’s campaign color – pink – that was spontaneously adopted by her supporters.

Robredo spent the eve of the kickoff of the 2022 presidential campaign among fellow Nagueños, highlighted by a homecoming to her alma mater, Universidad de Sta. Isabel (USI).

For Robredo, it was a touching reunion with her batchmates from Class 1982, particularly after she had earlier said that her hometown, Naga City, always brought her comfort and solace amid the political challenges she has faced.

Robredo, the only female presidential candidate, said she seeks to bring back good governance to the country, believing that an honest government is key to making the Filipinos’ lives better.
