Listening to music for some people is a form of therapy. It can also make your life situations easy to cope with. There are songs that can awaken intense emotions or bring us back to the memorable times in the past.

For singer and actor Guji Lorenzana, music can save lives.

The 41-year-old artist spoke to Manila Standard Entertainment during the press launch of his new single, “This Beat Will Save You,” which he described as a reminder that people should keep on working despite being confronted by difficult situations.

“This song is very apt for this depressing season of the pandemic as its message is about not losing hope,” Lorenzana told the author.

“I was in the crossroads of my life when I wrote it. I was trying to decide whether to go on with showbiz or not. Gusto pa ba nila ako kahit I’m already 41, married with kids? And the song says that despite whatever is happening in your life, just go with the flow. Don’t get brokenhearted. Life is like music and if you’d let the music lead you, there will always be a happy ending for you,” he carried on and noted that the song was influenced by the works of Michael Jackson and Gary Valenciano.

“This Beat Will Save You” got Lorenzana through COVID. It’s an all-too-familiar story we’ve heard of this past two years.

The singer-actor caught the bug so to speak, and if that wasn’t enough, his whole family caught it, too.

“Yeah, that was a worrying time for us,” said Lorenzana.“But me and my wife Cheska worried more for our kids Cassidy (2) and Brielle (11months).”

After finding out though, Lorenzana resolved to be positive. “We isolated and just did everything to stay healthy.”

Luckily, just before getting the virus, Lorenzana was able to release the new single which, coincidentally enough, is titled “This Beat Will Save You.” And saved him it did, because the track reminded him to be productive.

“Staying in isolation for a month meant that I had time to do the things that interests me. And that’s doing (music) covers, vlogs and just being a creator. I used the time to be creative because that was the healthy thing to do while recovering from COVID.”

Sure enough, Guji was able to produce a music video for “This Beat Will Save You” during the time he was recovering.

The music video, which he worked on with other creators, whose theme mirrors his recent experience, will premiere on YouTube next weekend. Guji also mentioned that besides music and being a creator, he is also slated to do a movie with Viva in the coming weeks. “I’m just waiting for the day when we finally will get the green light to go out again. Then I can work again on the movies that I signed on with Viva,” Lorenzana said, adding, “Keeping busy with what I love doing most, in many ways, really did save my life.”

“This Beat Will Save You” was actually written by Lorenzana back in 2018. Waiting for the time to put it out, he eventually found the moment when he joined the YouTube creator camp NextUp Philippines.

The track found its way to getting used as the accompanying music for his NextUp project. Guji was one of the big winners of the competition wherein he won P100 thousand worth of equipment of his choice.
