Substitute Win Naing Tun found an opening in the 79th minute and scored for Myanmar as the visiting team turned back the Philippine Under-22 Team, 2-1, yesterday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Win came off the bench late in the second half and handed the Burmese booters their first win against a draw in two games in Group A of the 30th Southeast Asian Games men’s football tournament.

The opportunity to score for Myanmar came after Win outfoxed Amani Aguinaldo and goalie Anthony Pinthus.

The Azkals could have drawn the match, but they missed the chance when skipper Stephan Schrock’s free kick in the 91st minute went straight to goalie Sann Sat Naing’s hands.

Myanmar earlier took the lead when Aung Kaung Mann went on the attack in the 16th minute.

The Azkals put on the pressure afterward.

They were able to equalize when Justin Baas struck just before halftime, following a good pass from Dennis Chung, who sent it after getting Yrick Gallantes’s corner kick.

The Philippines got many chances to take the lead early.

Chima Uzoka had his opportunity, but his attempt was called an offside.

Baas went for a second goal, but his attempt in the 61st minute was off.

On Sunday, the young Filipino booters dragged Cambodia to a 1-1 draw, with substitute midfielder Dennis Chung scoring on a pass by Schrock during the five minute added time, also at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.

Chung, who came in Dylan de Bruycker, found the net after Schrock could not get past a wall of defenders.

Defender Justin Baas and goalie Anthony Pintus got in way of pair of attempts by Sin Kakada before time expired.

The Cambodians put the Philippines on its toes early after Keo Sokpheng slipped past the defense in the 41st minute.
