Dela Peña leads Reg. 2 Science Week festivities

Tuguegarao City—Developments in science and technology are essentially changing the way people live, connect, communicate, and conduct business toward economic development, Science Secretary Fortunato Dela Peña said.

Dela Peña made these remarks at the Regional Science Technology Week here at the Cagayan State University’s Andrews Campus from August 27 to 30.

The secretary graced the ribbon-cutting ceremony with Department of Science and Technology Regional Director Sancho Mabborangon, CSU president Dr. Urdujah Tejada, and engineer Pearlita Mabazza,  representing Governor Manuel N. Mamba.

With the theme, “Science for the People: Enabling Technologies for Sustainable Development,” the annual festivity highlighted the innovations in science, technology and research that play a major portion in achieving national development.

It also focuses on services that can help achieve the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as it attempts to address the societal challenge.

Dela Peña said: “DOST addresses on the pressing problems such as transportation and mobility among other concerns that alter the lives of the populace.”

“Science and technology are key to development since it underpins economic advances, improvements in health systems, education, and infrastructure,” he stressed.

Regional director Mabborang emphasized that every day is a productive one with Dela Peña in charge, and lauded the secretary for his passion for work.

Tejada later emphasized on science, technologies, and their application.

“With something new to explore, new innovative and technologies it is perceived as a way to increase productivity towards advancement,” she said.

Urduja cited the region’s different ventures with DOST, like its Food Innovation Center, Rehabilitation in Multi-Species Hatchery, and environmental projects in agriculture and fisheries in CSU’s campuses.
