The intensified fight of Navotas against illegal drugs has borne fruit following the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency’s certification that another barangay is now drug-cleared.

Mayor Toby Tiangco, together with Vice Mayor Clint Geronimo and members of the city council, handed the PDEA certificate to Brgy. Captain Elvie dela Rosa and other officials of Brgy. Navotas West.

The certificate stated that Navotas West has been drug-cleared as of July 31 after thorough assessment and validation on their compliance with Section 8 of Dangerous Drugs Board Regulation No. 3, series of 2017.

For it to be drug-cleared, a barangay needs to have zero drug supply, zero drug dens, zero drug transit/transshipment activity, and zero drug laboratory or warehouse.

Moreover, drug personalities under the unified watchlist should have been given appropriate intervention, the barangay has a drug-free workplace, barangay officials are actively advocating for anti-drug campaign, among others.

Aside from Navotas West, five barangays in Navotas have already been drug-cleared — Navotas East, North Bay Boulevard South Dagat-dagatan, San Rafael Village, Tanza I and Tanza II.

Tiangco clarified that being drug-cleared does not mean a barangay is totally rid of the drug menace.

“There are transient drug users and peddlers who come to our city. This why we need to stay vigilant. Report any shady or illegal activities. Your utmost cooperation will help us sustain our fight against illegal drugs,” he said.

Navotas has a Text JRT (JohnRey oR Toby) facility that receives feedbacks, complaints or reports from residents. Messages may be sent to Text JRT numbers 0915-2601385 for Globe, 0908-8868578 for Smart, and 0922-8888578 for Sun.
