The competitive selection process or public bidding on the requirement of Manila Electric Co. to purchase 2,900 megawatts of power supply has received strong interest from major industry players.
“Given the number of firms that have expressed interest as of date, we could say that it is a competitive field already. It’s not really a matter of simply number that we have to really see the level of, or the capacity of this supposed interested bidders to really bid. So it looks like most of the major players are interested, which is a good outcome,” said Meralco president Ray Espinosa.
Meralco has published invitation to bids for the supply of 500 MW of capacity for its mid-merit requirements over a five-year period. Meralco has initially received interest from seven companies to participate in the CSP.
It also issued an invitation to bid for the supply of 1,200 MW of power over a 20-year period from March 2024.
It published the first invitation to bid for the 10-year supply of 1,200 MW capacity for its base load requirement, which received interest from 11 interested parties.
