Reelectionist Senator Nancy Binay said she is being targeted by hackers after her personal Facebook account has been disabled for a third time in April.
“Today Facebook notified me that my personal account has been disabled. This is the third time this month that my account has been disabled,” Binay said in a statement.
Binay, who is running under the United Nationalist, Alliance also said she has been receiving messages from Facebook about reports on attempts to log-in to her account.
Binay said she does not want to speculate on the motives of the attacks but said the timing of the attempts to disable her social media account is suspect.
“We know that it’s campaign season and social media is a big help in the campaign. It’s just scary that there were already several attempts this month to hack my personal account,” she said.
“Yung timing din kasi parang may koneksyon sa mga naging pahayag ko on certain issues. I’m not sure if this has something to do with local politics, or dahil tumatakbo ako for reelection in the Senate,” she added.
The lockout has forced Binay to directly contact Facebook to gain back access to her account after hackers changed the name and email address of her personal account.
“We had to contact Facebook and explain to them that this account is my personal account and that hackers changed the name and email address of my account,” she added.
