Taguig City Mayor Laarni Cayetano said Wednesday the city government will continue implementing its Lifeline Assistance for Neighbors In-Need, a scholarship program designed to cater the youth in the city.

Cayetano made the assurance as she, Vice Mayor Ricardo Cruz Jr., and other city officials praised more than 22,000 public school graduating students and completers as they were conferred their diplomas and awards in their recent graduation and moving-up ceremonies.

The city government also distributed scholarship voucher certificates to qualified senior high students from Taguig public schools, along with the revised LANI Scholarship Application Form series of 2019 and summary of benefits, which will depend on the type of scholarship they will avail.

The LANI program coverage has increased through the years as the city government raised scholars’ allowances in July 2017. The packages now range from P15,000 to P60,000, depending on the type of scholarship a student has availed.

In addition, students in public schools in the city receive free school supplies before the start of each school year. These freebies include shoes, school bags, uniforms, raincoats, notebooks, hygiene kits, and emergency grab bags.

Cayetano noted that all the initiatives in education were toward a vision of a more progressive Taguig.

“We dream of a better Taguig City. What we can do as a city to fulfill this is to provide various initiatives that will allow our children to dream and have the means to fulfill them,” she said.

Also recently, the city government approved an ordinance which provide all students at Taguig City University (TCU) P5,000 in educational assistance every semester.

Still under the ordinance, the cream of the crop at TCU can receive an added P5,000 each semester.

The merit incentive will go to students garnering a general weighted average of at least 1.75 with no failing and incomplete marks or dropped subjects in the preceding semester.

“While these students are already considered full scholars of the city since the local government shoulders all their tuition fees and miscellaneous expenses, we are fully aware that they still have other education-related expenses to deal with, hence, this ordinance that will encourage them to continue pursuing their dreams,” said Cayetano.
