Riding its recent momentum, Magnolia fired from all cylinders to methodically rout inconsistent Columbian Dyip, 109-83, for its second straight win, pumping life into its quarterfinals bid in the 2019 Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum last night.

Ian Sangalang led the Hotshots’ charge, scoring 16 points to go with six rebounds.

As Magnolia listed its first winning streak of the season, it improved to 3-4 to move up to seventh place, while Columbian fell to eighth, slipping to a 4-6 card.

The Dyip only has a game left in its schedule and it needs to rack up a win to give itself a fair chance of staying in the top eight.

Still riding the momentum of its last game, Magnolia was able to muscle its way to an early double-digit lead, carving a 22-12 headway at the end of one.

Peter June Simon’s basket off a one-hander capped off a 7-0 Hotshots’ run and stretched the distance further to 17 points, 29-12, at the 9:44 mark of the second, giving Magnolia full control.

At the half, the Hotshots settled once again for a 10-point spread, 48-38.

Magnolia then closed out the third strongly, outscoring the Dyip by 14 points in the last eight minutes of the third to break the game wide open for good.

The Hotshots were already ahead by 18, 75-57, entering the final quarter.

The final 12 minutes were all about adding insult to injury as Magnolia kept hammering Columbian until the final buzzer.

Despite several attempted rallies, the Dyip was unable to seriously threaten the Hotshots all game long.
