Franco Salvia put on an MVP-type performance, while Chris Jutie came off the bench and provided the additional firepower needed by STI Las Piñas, which blasted its counterpart, STI Rosario, 88-38, in the National Basketball Tournament at the STI Global City over the weekend.

Salvia, a graduating Business Management student, poured in 22 points, nine rebounds, eight assists and seven steals in an all-around performance to lead the Las Piñas-based dribblers to a blazing start in this tournament.

Backing up Salvia was Jutie, an Information Technology student, who tallied 22 markers and three steals.

Overall, Las Piñas completed 27 steals compared to only two for its rival.

So tough was Las Piñas’ defense that it forced Rosario to commit 37 turnovers. That led to 45 turnover points, 34 more than its opponent. Las Piñas also dished out 23 assists compared to only six for Rosario, which was held to only five points in the fourth period.

Other top performers for Las Piñas were Jerome Faelden, who went a rebound away from posting a double-double, and Byron Alano.

Faelden had 13 points and nine rebounds while Alano contributed 12.

Also winning was STI Makati, which defeated STI Taft, 64-59.
