For having incomplete or absent Sangguniang Kabataan members, the Department of the Interior and Local Government is set to conduct a special election on Feb. 2 in Quezon City’s four upscale subdivisions in Districts 1, 3 and 4 to fill the gap.

Ana Lyn Cortez, DILG-Quezon City lawyer-director, said the special election will be held in barangays St. Ignatius, White Plains, Blue Ridge A and Loyola Heights.

Barangays Mangga in Project 4 and Quirino 2A are also included in the Feb. 2 special election for SK officials pursuant to Section 19 of Republic ACt 10742 or the SK Reform Act of 2015.

Last Jan. 23 and Jan. 26, a special election was held in barangays Damar, Lourdes, Sienna, West Triangle, Doña Josefa, Laging Handa, Mariana, and Teachers Village East and West.

Cortez said a complete membership in the SK is vital in the implementation of youth-oriented programs and utilization of the SK fund.

At least 10 percent of the city government’s annual general fund goes to the youth council.

Cortez called for the active participation of the youth in the special election.

“This is the second time we are giving the youth the chance to fill up the vacancies. We [badly] need their cooperation and participation,” she said.

Earlier, Cortez met with the local youth development office and city administrator Aldrin Cuña to discuss the plans on the conduct of the elections.

Residents and youth organizations in the barangays were notified five days prior to the conduct of the special elections.

Cortez said those to win shall go through a training on governance at the University of the Philippines’ National College of Public Administration and Governance on Feb. 11 to Feb. 15.
