Phoenix eyes berth in PBA quarterfinals

The jockeying of position continues as the elimination round of the 2018 Philippine Basketball Association Governors’ Cup hits its homestretch.

A critical double-header is slated today with Phoenix and San Miguel Beer looking to enhance their quarterfinals’ bid, while Rain or Shine and NorthPort are desperate for a win to stay alive.

The Fuel Masters (6-3) are looking to book a seat in the quarters when they go head-to-head against the Elasto Painters (2-6) at 4:30 p.m. even as the Beermen (4-4) go for a third straight win against the Batang Pier (2-7) at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.

It’s basically do-or-die for Rain or Shine and NorthPort as both teams need to win their respective assignments to stay alive and keep their slim chance of making the top eight.

For Phoenix, a win against the Painters will give it an outright ticket to the next round. Also, the Fuel Masters need a win to stay in the hunt for a top four finish.

The top four finishers at the end of the eliminations will earn a twice-to-beat incentive in the quarterfinals against the lower-seeded teams.

Lastly, peaking San Miguel Beer, winner of two in a row, can move closer to quarters berth as well should it keep rolling against the Batang Pier.
