Eight out of 10 adult Filipinos are satisfied with the way democracy works in the country, an independent pollster revealed Thursday.

The Social Weather Stations’ latest survey, released Thursday evening, said 84 percent of those polled said they are satisfied. This was six points above the 78 percent recorded in March 2018.

SWS also found that most Filipinos preferred democracy over any other form of government.

Of the 1,500 adults, 59 percent said they prefer democracy than any other kind of government system. The portion, which SWS labeled as “committed democrats,” barely moved from the 60 percent recorded in June.

Meanwhile, 20 percent answered they prefer an authoritarian system of government than democracy. This group, which the pollster referred to as “conditional authoritarian,” only moved a little from the 19 percent recorded in June.

On the other hand, 19 percent expressed ambivalence on the matter, believing it does not matter whether the country is under a democratic or a non-democratic system of government. The recorded “indifferent” portion barely changed from March’s 21 percent.

The survey was conducted from Sept. 15 to 23, 2018, using face-to-face interviews.

It had sampling error margins of ±3 percent for national percentages, ±4 percent for Balance Luzon, and ±6 percent each for Metro Manila, Visayas, and Mindanao.
