About 180 personnel from the Philippine Sports Commission strengthened the second year of the Department of Trade and Industry “Consumer Fun Run” last September 29 at the SM Mall of Asia Concerts Grounds.

DTI Consumer Protection and Advocacy Bureau, Director Ronnel Abrenica thanked PSC Chairman William Ramirez and the rest of the agency, for its continuing support for other government agencies in sporting activities.

“The PSC was a big help in staging this event, given that most of us have no expertise in conducting a fun run,” said Abrenica.  He furthered that the run was supposed to “raise public awareness on their basic rights as consumers.”

The PSC successfully provided technical, logistics, documentation and transportation services for the fun run that was attended by around 3,500 participants from national government agencies, local government units and private sectors.

“Last year, we only had 700 runners but for this year, umakyat na tayo sa around 3,500 registered participants doing either 3K, 5K or 10K tracks,” added Abrenica, who also served as the Senior Executive Assistant of Ramirez before he transferred to DTI.

The fun run was held in celebration of the Consumer Welfare Month held every October, through Proclamation no. 1908 of 1997.
