The recognition was given to the group in a ceremony that followed the Aug. 20 flag-raising ceremony.

GANAP-QCPU clinched a silver medal each in the Mixed Voices under 25 category, Folklore Open category, and Musica Sacra Open during the international choral festival last month held at the National University of Singapore.

According to Alexis Jan Patacsil, artistic director of GANAP QCPU, there were over 60 choral groups from different countries in Asia, Europe, and North America that joined the competition.

“This is the first time that GANAP-QCPU competed and we are lucky that in our first competition, we won,” Patacsil said.

GANAP-QCPU, the only theater group in the competition, competed alongside Los Contantes de Manila and Cordillera Chamber Singers who also bagged awards for the country.

Patacsil said they are thankful to the city government for providing support for the QCPU group.

“We are really grateful and thankful to Mayor Herbert Bautista and to the city government as they were instrumental in giving these kids the opportunity to bring pride for our country,” Patacsil said.
