Brig. Gen. Augustus de Villa was named acting head of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Health Service Command on Tuesday.

He replaced Brig. Gen. Edwin Leo Torrelavega who was relieved from his post, along with 21 others, to give way for the investigations on the alleged anomalies in procurement practices in the AFP Medical Center, also known as the V. Luna Hospital.

Col. Noel Detoyato, military public affairs office chief, said the swift turnover was done to ensure that the AFP HSC would be able to fully perform its function of overseeing vital medical services and health care for soldiers in the military hospitals nationwide.

Armed Forces Chief Carlito Galvez Jr. led the turnover ceremonies at the Armed Forces of the Philippines Medical Center auditorium.

He pledged to clean up and make the AFP Health Service Command one of the best medical care facilities in the country.

De Villa was previously assigned as Chief Surgeon of the Philippine Air Force; Commanding Officer of Basa Airbase Hospital, Fernando Air Base Hospital, and Presidential Security Group Hospital, and Command Surgeon of the Air Education and Training Command.

He is also serving as the AFP Surgeon General as of this posting.
