EcoDyip Inc. said it will spend more than P2 billon to acquire additional modern jeepneys in the next three years, after securing a provisional authority  to operate from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board.

EcoDyip president Richard Rosales said the company would acquire  modern jeepneys for P2.2 million  each from Indian vehicle manufacturer Mahindra.

“Currently, we have 100 units of modern jeepneys and will be be acquiring additional 1,000 more units for P2.2 billion,” Rosales said.

The additional modern jeepney units would be deployed in the National Capital Region.

The company recently secured a PA from LTFRB to operate modern jeepneys called “DyipKo” in two routes in Metro Manila.

It currently has 50 DyipKo Supro for its Eastwood to Capital Commons route, and another 50 DyipKo Transmover for its Lawton to Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange route.

EcoDyip, in collaboration with Mahindra, came up with a vehicle that meets and suits the current needs of the Philippine commuter market – one that is safe, efficient and with modern features.

Dyipko aims to to hire existing jeepney drivers, train them on the technicalities of driving, safe measures and proper etiquette in dealing with passengers so the commuters can have a comfortable and safe ride experience.

The project also supports the implementation of government programs and policies.

The Department of Transportation is in the process of replacing all public utility vehicles aged 15 years or more with modern e-jeepney under its PUV Modernization Program.

The modern PUVs are designed to be environment-friendly, safe, secure and convenient with due consideration to persons with disabilities.

The PUVMP also encourages industry consolidation or the strategic merging of smaller transport industry players to form cooperatives or corporations.

The DOTr signed an MOU with the Landbank of the Philippines in April 2017 to set up a P1-billion financing scheme for PUJs via the Special Environment-Friendly and Efficiently Driven or Speed Jeepney Program.
