Two low-pressure areas or LPAs are brewing into tropical depressions, the state weather bureau said on Monday.

Pagasa is “closely and continuously” monitoring this LPA “that is still at the West Philippine Sea,” Duran said.

One LPA, estimated at 1,285 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan, is forecast to become a tropical depression “within 12 hours to 24 hours,” forecaster Samuel Duran of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration told the Manila Standard.

He said this LPA, once it develops into a storm, would be named “Karding” by Pagasa.

Another LPA was estimated at 545 kms west of Subic, Zambales.

Pagasa is “closely and continuously” monitoring this LPA “that is still at the West Philippine Sea,” Duran said.

Based on the bureau’s weather satellite model, “Karding” would not make landfall since it is expected to move northward, he added.

“It would only enhance the monsoon rains to affect the western part of Northern Luzon, western part of Southern Luzon, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula and the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao,” Duran said.

The country is still reeling from three typhoons that enhanced the southwest monsoon or “habagat” last month, which led to widespread flooding and caused up to P2 billion in agricultural and infrastructure damages, the Department of Agriculture said.
