Cherie Gil reunites with Nora Aunor in ‘Onanay’

Seasoned character actress Cherie Gil reveals that she is really looking forward to doing a scene with superstar Nora Aunor in which she will splash water on her face.

“I really want to do it to Ate Guy,” she says. “I still haven’t had the courage though. Everyone knows it’s one of the classic confrontation scenes in my acting career. You know, back in 1985 in the movie Bituing Walang Ningning where I threw water on Sharon Cuneta’s face. It became very popular along with the line, ‘You’re nothing but a second-rate, trying hard copycat!’ I think it would be great if Ate Guy and I will engage in a similar scene.”

In 'Onanay' Cherie Gil is Helena, a former beauty queen and now a wealthy owner of an online fashion magazine.

According to the critically-acclaimed actress, she’s been dreaming of re-enacting that particular scene with the superstar when they were together in the 2015 ASEAN International Film Festival.

“Yes, during that time, she was honored with a Lifetime Achievement award while I grabbed the Best Actress plum for Sonata. As early as then I was pitching in the idea to her and she would agree. I guess, we just waited for the right timing.”

Seemingly, Cherie’s wish has the possibility to come true now that she and Nora are working together in the new GMA soap called Onanay.

“Well, there’s a chance really, but I still have to make a plan or a moment. That scene should be executed perfectly out of good planning. Let’s see in the coming days.”

“Interestingly, Onanay brings back the two award-winning stars together on the small screen after doing Bituin over at the rival channel ABS-CBN sixteen years ago.

“That was in 2003 and I just came back from the States. How time flies,” she muses.

Would she say there’s a difference now in their working relationship as compared before?

“Definitely, I’m more relaxed with her now. Way back then, I admit there’s some distance between the two of us. Maybe, it’s because I was younger and it was a comeback vehicle for me while it was her first soap for the Kapamilya.

“But now, we’re already jamming on the set, so to speak. We’re more comfortable with each other. Ate Guy would always look for me every time she arrives on the set. It’s cool.”

Cherie is a self-confessed Noranian.

“That’s true! I look up to her. For one, she’s got a pair of stunning eyes. She’s also very humble.”

This early, many are asking if they have lots of highly dramatic scenes together in “Onanay.”

“Surely! And these would be coming from the heart since the story is about two mothers. It will be intense!” ends Cherie.

Andrea Torres is all praises to her Victor Magtanggol co-star Alden Richards.

“We’ve worked together in various programs before like in Beloved way back 2012. It’s always a pleasant experience working with him. I witnessed his dedication to his craft and no wonder he is in an enviable position now,” she states.

“The sexy star is happy to be reunited with the Pambansang Bae.

“I’m just so excited since it’s been a while that we’ve worked in a project together. And now, it’s a huge one. It’s a big-budgeted material. I’m sure it will be a hit specially that its genre (fantasy-drama-action) is appealing to all types of viewers.”

Andrea notes that Alden hasn’t changed after all these years.

“He’s still the same energetic, down-to-earth and good conversationalist type of guy. He always remains positive. Never will you hear him complain on the set. He’s a good leader,” says Andrea.
