“Dengue cases increased by two percent with a total of 62,632 from lasat year’s 61,000 for the same period,” Duque said in a radio interview with dzBB.

Duque said Ilocos Norte, in particular, posted a high number of dengue cases.

“Ilocos already knows what they need to do. At the local level, our local government units are activating dengue brigades and conduct fogging,” he said.

Duque said the DoH has also recorded a high number of chikungunya cases in Biliran province. Like dengue, the chikungunya virus is also contracted through mosquito bites.

Unlike dengue, however, chikungunya is “self-limiting,” Duque said.

Duque reminded the public to practice the 4S against mosquitos, namely to search and destroy breeding places, to adopt self-protection measures, to seek early consultation, and to say yes to fogging.
