The Concordia Bridge along President Quirino Avenue in Manila will be partially closed to vehicular traffic beginning Monday to pave the way for the reconstruction of its northbound lane.
Frisco San Juan, deputy chairman of the Metro Manila Development Authority, said the southbound lane of Concordia Bridge will be closed for eight months.
“The bridge needs to be replaced due to safety issues. The bridge reconstruction has been delayed too long,” said San Juan.
The Concordia Bridge consists of six lanes: three northbound and three southbound.
Its southbound lane shall be closed first to the motorists for the reconstruction of the northbound lane.
The three remaining lanes will be shared by vehicles heading both northbound and southbound directions in the duration of the reconstruction.
The MMDA official said that the bridge reconstruction is being held in coordination with the Department of Public Works and Highways, and should be finished ahead of the Skyway Stage 3 project.

The Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3 Project is envisioned to be a 17.38 kilometer elevated expressway from Buendia in Makati City to Balintawak in Quezon City.
The project aims to connect the North Luzon Expressway and South Luzon Expressway and is seen to decongest traffic in the metropolis especially along EDSA, C-5 and Central Manila.
