26 boxers shoot for Pacquiao Cup finals’ spots

TWENTY-SIX remaining boxers will fight to secure their finals spots as the first window of the PSC-Pacquiao Amateur Boxing Cup final round opens today at Maasin City Bus Terminal.

The contest, scheduled for 13 bouts, will feature young brawlers from Talisay City, Mandaue City, Cebu City, Escalante City, Bago City, Bayawan City, Cadiz City, La Carlota City and Murcia in Negros Occidental.

Facing each other in the Junior Girls Pin are Jeyann Medriano and Jilyn Dela Cruz (44-46kg.), followed by Micah Castellano versus Mary I.C. Sinadjan of the Jr. Girls Fly (50kg.), Kim Caterdilla versus Rodel Gamo in the Jr. Boys Pin (44-46kg.), Eduardo Jimenez and Samuel Manale in the Jr. Boys Light Fly (46kg.), Gaudfrey Lubiano against Joshua Belicena in the Jr. Boys Fly and Jorin Varona versus Jonimel Dajao in the Jr. Boys Light Bantam (52kg.).

Moving up to the Junior Boys Bantamweight, Sugar Ray Montales will go up against Ian Llyod Gesalan (54kg.) followed by Youth Girls Light Fly featuring Myra Nacario and Mary Nicole Llamas (45-48kg.), Michael Adolfo versus John Paul Gabunelas in the Youth Boys Light Fly (46-49kg.), Nel Tambanillo and April Jay Abne in the Youth Boys Fly (52kg.), together with Jasper Anida versus Jhorhe Pasculado in the Youth Boys Bantam (56kg.), Romel Pinili and Jarah Hury Aragon in the Youth Boys Light (60kg.) and Jere Dela Cruz versus J-Mar Jaga in the Youth Boys Light Welter (64kg.).

“The PSC-Pacquiao Cup is an excellent starting ground for future boxers who will represent the country in the coming years,” said PSC Chairman William Ramirez in a press conference last Wednesday.

PSC Commissioner Ramon Fernandez and 1996 Olympic silver medalist Mansueto “Onyok” Velasco are expected to grace the event today.
