THE Commission on Audit has called the attention of the National Youth Commission for “unnecessary spending” on meals and snacks served in 112 unofficial meetings held in 2017 and for hiring consultants with incomplete documentation.

The state auditors cautioned the NYC to “observe prudence in the use of government funds” saying food should be served only for office-related events.

“We reviewed the petty cash vouchers and found out that of the total sample of 126 meetings and related activities held during the year, the total cost of P296,968.30 was used for payment of meals and snacks served, 112 of which with a total cost of P268,068.55 were considered not official,” CoA's report read.

According to the CoA, the NYC must submit a duly signed notice of meeting or office order bearing the names of participants and the purpose so the commission determine whether or not an event is work-related.
