WINNING four straight Philippine Cup championships is apparently not enough as the San Miguel Beermen aim on cementing their dynasty further in the Philippine Basketball Association.

Still fresh from their historic All-Filipino title conquest, the Beermen are still on cloud nine and celebrating their unprecedented accomplishment of racking up four straight Philippine Cup titles.

But make no mistake about it. San Miguel Beer isn’t tired of winning at all.

In fact, it is already looking forward to defending its Commissioner’s Cup crown as well.

“We’re still overwhelmed with what the team accomplished,” said San Miguel coach Leo Austria. “It’s the time to celebrate for us now but we’re also excited for next conference. The possibility of winning a championship will always be there.”

The already deadly and deeply-talented line-up of San Miguel will only be upgraded come the second conference as top overall pick Christian Standhardinger is finally expected to make his debut as well as new import Troy Gillenwater.

“It just so happens now that we will have an import [Gillenwater] and another one who can play like an import [Standhardinger],” added Austria with excitement.

Does that make San Miguel even more unbeatable? As per Austria, not necessarily.

“Every conference, you still have to work hard because talent is not enough. Our attitude is. If we continue working hard and keep our focus and camaraderie, we will always have a chance at a championship,” said Austria.

San Miguel still has about a month, more or less, to celebrate its historic feat before plunging back to action in the Commissioner’s Cup.

The mid-season tournament starts on April 22.

Before San Miguel, no team in league history had won four straight All-Filipino crowns.
