Japanese makeup distributor Utsukushi-sa Inc. is set to offer a certificate course on Special Effects Makeup Artistry for Screen and Media for eight consecutive Saturdays, beginning April 7 until May 26 at the School for Professional and Continuing Education (SPaCE) at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB).

The classes were launched due to the increased need for special effects to create a look that may be specially needed for either editorials or movies, beyond the traditional uses in portrait or pre-nuptial shoots.

This module is designed for those who already have a fundamental understanding of basic, traditional and airbrush make-up.

Sessions will cover advanced makeup application techniques, plus primary and alternative materials for props. Students will likewise study the human anatomy to understand and determine how special effects on wounds and injuries come to life and look believably real. Classes will include special effects to create bruises, wounds and injuries, and ageing, as well as appropriate hairstyling. There will also be discussions on drag queen makeup, camouflage, face painting, and celebrity impersonation.

To complete the training, there will be a character presentation project that will entail the use of all learnings.

The module is priced at P56,550, with a complimentary kit from 727 Cosmetics that shall be used in class.
