THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency has turned to social media for faster, wider and more timely dissemination of information on the government’s anti-drug campaign.
PDEA Director General Aaron Aquino said the agency has created its own Facebook and Twitter accounts with the usernames Pdea TopStories and PDEA Top Stories on Facebook and Twitter handle @PdeaTopStories.
“This is an open invitation to all Facebook and Twitter users to visit our online venues,” he said.
“They can use the accounts to read up-to-date news, activities, advisories and press statements of PDEA, and share the content as widely as possible. Also, they can post comments and suggestions that would be essential in the war against illegal drugs. Every insight means a lot to us. After all, we are together in this fight,” Aquino added.
The PDEA chief said aside from traditional media, social media platforms are also able to influence or sway public consciousness or opinion.
“We are tapping these platforms to fill-in the necessary gaps for better understanding and appreciation of the government’s campaign against the drug menace,” he said.
