Communications Secterary Martin Andanar said Vice President Leni Robredo will be given a role in the transition government should the shift to a federal government becomes a reality under the Duterte administration.
“Sa palagay ko, certainly meron pong magiging role ang kasalakuyang vice president dahil hindi naman pwede na hindi mo bigyan ng role dahil siya po ay halal ng taumbayan,” Andanar said in a television interview.
Former Bayan Muna Rep. Neri Colmenares earlier said Robredo would be removed from her office long before her term expires in 2022 if the ruling PDP-Laban party succeeds having the proposed constitution, which allegedly abolishes the Office of the Vice President, ratified during the May 2019 elections.
Robredo’s camp, however, noticed that the proposal on the shift to federalism did not mention of “OVP abolition as a necessary feature.”
“Or is the abolition already in service of some other, unstated, agenda?” said Robredo’s legal adviser Barry Gutierrez last month.
