OceanaGold offers 9 college scholarships

KASIBU, Nueva Vizcaya—Asia-Pacific miner OceanaGold, the operator of the Didipio Gold-Copper mine here, announced on Thursday the opening of new college scholarship grants under the Development of Mining Technology and Geosciences program.

“There are nine available slots funded under the DMTG open for bonafide residents of Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino provinces,“ general manager David Way of Didipio Operations stated.

The DMTG program is a compliance to the provisions of Republic Act 7942, otherwise known as the 1995 Mining Act.

“Applicants must take up mining-related courses, specifically Mining Engineering, B.S. Geology and Metallurgical Engineering. For these courses, a scholar is allocated a total of P170,000 annually to cover tuition and miscellaneous fees, book allowances and monthly stipend,” the firm said.

“Other related engineering and science disciplines include Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geodetic Engineering, BS Environmental Science, BS Forestry and BS Agriculture. For these course, a scholar is allocated P150,000 annually to cover tuition and miscellaneous fees, book allowances and monthly stipend,” the statement added.
