TAGBILARAN WELCOMES FERNANDEz, CHILDREN’S GAMES

More than 600 children attended the opening ceremonies of the Children’s Games in Tagbilaran City yesterday.

Fifteen barangays were represented in the said event which gathered children 12 years old and below for two days of fun and plays at the Holy Name University.

PSC Commissioner Ramon Fernandez in his short speech extolled the children participants and their parents, saying in Visayan that “we at the PSC are happy to be here in Tagbilaran. Thanks to the local government and the Mayor for their assistance and cooperation.”

Mayor Baba Yap of Tagbilaran City will be the guest of honor today at the culmination activity of the event.

Fernandez added that “the PSC wants to reach as many children as possible with this program.” 

He commended PSC Chairman Butch Ramirez for crafting the Children’s Games in reply to the marching orders of President Rodrigo Duterte to bring sports to the countryside and engage the children in play and movement.

Basic skills training in popular sports like volleyball, basketball, lawn tennis and table tennis, traditional and parlor games were enjoyed by the participants.

Fernandez oversees PSC activities in the Visayas and has scheduled a total of 50 legs of the Children’s Games in his area.  This leg is the second of 41 scheduled for this year. Their first salvo for 2018 was held in Dumaguete last week.
