DAVAO CITY”•Mayor Sara Duterte and the city government has extended food and financial assistance to victims of the flood brought by tropical storm “Vinta” in Brgy. Gumalang, Brgy. Lacson, Brgy. Dacudao, and Brgy. Pangyan on Monday.

Recipients of the assistance received between P3,000 to P10,000, depending on the extent of the damages to their homes and properties.

The City Social Services and Development Office has listed down 22,911 families affected by the flood triggered by Vinta.

On Tuesday, Duterte will also visit other villages severely affected by the December flood that prompted the local government to declare a state of calamity.

The storm and flood left over P80 million in damages in infrastructure and agriculture in Davao City, officials said.

On Monday, the mayor also spoke with students of the affected barangays, encouraging them to do good in their studies.

Education, she said, “is the key to ensure a better future” for them and their own children.

Duterte also reminded the flood victims to relocate their houses far from rivers to avoid a repeat.

The mayor earlier announced that the city will relocate residents whose houses were built under bridges or in a flood-prone area.

She said that the CSSDO will make a master list of those people who will qualify for the housing program of the city government and the National Housing Authority.
