ACHIEVEMENTS of Makati Rep. Monsour del Rosario outside of the field of taekwondo will be recognized by the Korean-based Kukkiwon, the official taekwondo governing organization in the world.
Del Rosario, who is currently the secretary general of the Philippine Taekwondo Association, will be among the eight honorees, who will receive an award as “Man of the Year in the World.”
“Ibang klaseng award ito, angat ang Pinoy at Pilipinas dito,” said Del Rosario after receiving a letter of invitation from Kukkiwon.
Del Rosario, ranked first in the Philippines in the lightweight division when he was still part of the national team, will be in Seoul to receive his award on Dec. 2.
The seven other awardees to be feted are Korean.
“It will be a momentous occasion. It will be presented by the World Taekwondo Association,” added del Rosario.
Del Rosario said the award will hopefully inspire young athletes to excel, not only in the sport of taekwondo, but in other professions outside of the sport as well.
Del Rosario, who competed in several international competitions, including the 1988 Seoul Olympics, said credentials given by the Philippine Sports Commission and the Philippine Olympic Committee were a big boost to this award.
