UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers head coach Boy Sablan and his coaching staff are reportedly set to leave the team by the end of the month.
His exit from the team came after he handled the Growling Tigers for two seasons.
This year, UST ended its campaign in the 80th University Athletic Association of the Philippines men’s basketball tournament with a 1-13 win-loss slate.
Last year, the Tigers had a 3-11 slate.
At one point during Sablan’s tenure, the Tigers went 393 days without a UAAP victory.
Coach Pido Jarencio, who mentored the Tigers to three finals appearances, including one title, is reportedly one of the candidates out to replace Sablan.
He has expressed his desire to be back.
Jarencio quit in 2013 to coach the Globalport Batang Pier in the PBA.
Then, Bong dela Cruz replaced him and handled UST to a 5-9 record in Season 77 and into a Finals’ stint in Season 78.
Meanwhile, in the UAAP Season 80 high school volleyball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre, defending boys’ champion National University and University of Santo Tomas dispute the remaining Finals slot today at 8 a.m.
