Storm Salome crosses West PH Sea

Tropical storm Salome is now crossing the West Philippine Sea.

It is moving in a west northwest direction.

Weather bureau PAGASA has located the weather disturbance at 175 kilometers west of Subic in Olongapo City.

Salome packs maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of 80 kph.

It is forecast to move west northwest at 20 kph.

Salome is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Saturday morning.

PAGASA has lifted all tropical cyclone warning signals. 

Classes were suspended in Metro Manila and in provinces affected by the storm.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reports, about 534 families fled to evacuation centers during the height of Salome.

Most of them were residents of Laguna and Quezon.

No casualties have been reported so far.

At least 2,300 boat passengers were stranded in ports across Bicol and Eastern Visayas.
