Warriors chase playoff berth

COACH Derrick Pumaren is keeping his fingers crossed that the University of the East Warriors will make it to the Final Four.

After they beat the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, 73-64, last Sunday, the Warriors found themselves in contention for the number 4 seeding in the semifinals of the 80th University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) men’s basketball tournament.

“May pag-asa pa. And not until a fourth team makes it (to the Final Four),” said Pumaren.

In their next game, the Warriors will have a tall order and big challenge when they clash with the defending champion La Salle Green Archers at 2 p.m. today at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The Warriors are in sixth place with their 3-7 win-loss slate.

The Green Archers are on a three-game winning run after their 80-74 triumph over the Adamson Falcons.

Holding an 8-2 win-loss slate, the Green Archers are looking for a win that would keep them in second spot behind the Ateneo Blue Eagles (10-0). Peter Atencio

Beating the Fighting Maroons has kept the Warriors upbeat going into their game against the Green Archers.

“We just have to stay positive on what’s going on,” said Pumaren.

Later, the Adamson Falcons take on the winless University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers at 4 p.m.

The Falcons are seeking to bounce back from their 64-73 setback from the Green Archers. Peter Atencio
