Zamboanga City has been placed under State of Calamity.

Zamboanga City Council passed the resolution due widespread floodings and landslides in the city's coastal communities.

Zamboanga City has been battered by heavy rains and strong winds for days now.

This condition is brought by an intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) prevailing in the area.

As of Friday, residents are still experiencing moderate to heavy rains.

The declaration of state of calamity was recommended by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

The council reported that 17 barangays were submerged, displacing about 3,666 families.

City Agriculturist Diosdado Palacat estimated that total damage to agriculture has reached more than P 45 million.

He reported floods have destroyed 310 hectares of rice fields, 477 hectares of corn farms and 144 hectares of vegetable farms.
